Usually, we welcome our volunteers and visitors to stay at Maji Matulivu; however, unfortunately we cannot always guarantee there will be space. Please confirm the dates of your stay and the size of the group (we request a limit of 8 people per group) with Virginie at virgomum2002@yahoo.ca.
Staying at Maji Matulivu
Staying at Maji Matulivu (our home):
The cost is $45/night if less than a month, or $500 per month. This includes room (usually sharing but couples have their own, obviously!), fabulous food, laundry, security, etc.
To do a wire transfer to Maji Matulivu, please follow the instructions below for direct deposit into our account, but please add 3% for the transfer fees. You can choose to pay at your preference; we only ask that you let us know as soon as possible whether you will pay via transfer or in cash when you arrive. If you are a volunteer, you may expense this on your tax forms. You will receive a receipt from Maji Matulivu.
* Transportation.
During your stay in Goma, transportation to and from your accommodation and place of work will be essential. The transportation you choose will depend on the size of your group, the flexibility of scheduling and timetables and budget. Virginie can help you arrange and coordinate this as well.
HEAL Africa vehicles
If you are staying at Maji, often, it is an option to travel to and from HEAL Africa with the group cars. While we try to work around everyone’s schedule, we cannot guarantee this transport will always be available.
It is possible to use a HEAL Africa car for your group. This option depends on the availability of cars at HEAL Africa and as such, is not very reliable. We do charge for gas costs ($1/km/vehicle) to use HEAL Africa transportation, as gas prices have risen sharply in the last months.
Taxis
There are many taxi options:
- Small taxis that fit up to 5 people are usually $5 to $7 each way, HEAL Africa and Maji
- Fabian (+243994326521) can drive a group once each morning to HEAL Africa and back to Maji each afternoon: $10 each way for each car. Big taxis fit 6-8 people.
- A secondary taxi option is +243994200214
- Bus taxis for $40 per day plus gas (about $.80/km). For large groups up to 16 people. Kalvin (+243998766210) or Aime (+243997748411).
Other options
Motorbike taxis or “motos” are another transportation option in Goma. For guests at Maji Matulivu, there are two helmets available for your use. On average, a moto costs US$1 from Maji to HEAL Africa, however, due to the danger we discourage this as a mode of transportation.
